* 18:30-19:30 Big Bear COAD Public Meeting
This message is going out to as many community residents as we can reach to explain the Disaster program we are trying to establish here in the Big Bear Valley. The program is entitled, “Big Bear Valley Community Organizations Active in Disasters” or BBV-COAD. We need to inform the residents of the Big Bear Valley how we will deal with a disaster while waiting for assistance from down the hill which can be days. This is supported by Big Bear Mountain Mutual Aid (First Responders) and County and local Fire Departments. What is COAD? The purpose of having a COAD is to advocate for and promote a coordinated valley wide disaster preparedness planning initiative that aims to integrate businesses, local service clubs, nonprofit organizations, as well as faith-based organizations and churches to improve community readiness in preparation of a major disaster event here in the valley. When disaster occurs COAD will support local emergency responders with resources. This collaboration will be involved in the planning, response, recovery and mitigation by COAD. This organization is affiliated with National (FEMA), Statewide (California), and County-wide (San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services). We are asking the local Service Organizations, nonprofit organizations, businesses, faith-based organizations and churches to send representatives to the Informational Community Meeting scheduled for Monday, August 20th at 6:30 – 7:30 pm at Bear Mountain Ski Resort. The public is also invited to attend. If you belong to an organization, please pass this information as to the meeting date and time to your board. If you wonder what you or your organization can do, check out the attached Resource Form and Volunteer Registration form. We need to compile a Resource Database so we know during an event what resources we can provide the first responders. These are areas that we need community organizations to support: Informational/Referral Unit; Clothing & Food Unit; Emotional/Spiritual Support Unit; Donated Goods Unit; Management of Volunteers and Mass Sheltering/Feeding Unit. Organizations supporting any of these Units would coordinate their own member volunteers; both organizations and volunteers will need to be registered ahead of time with the Big Bear Valley COAD. If you would like a presentation of what we are trying to accomplish to your group or organization, please contact me and I will arrange it for you. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at bblcoad©gmail.com. Thank you, Yomar Cleary

Jerry B is having trouble logging in. He asked me to tell everyone: "A little heads up for the people out in the Shay Meadows area, a mountain lion was in a backyard of a house in the 1300 block on East Big Bear Blvd. close to Shay Rd fork on 5/17 Friday morning. The cat is 4 and ½ feet tall."
