doo-hick-ey--what's your general location? I've heard a bunch of snake stories, but haven't seen any in Fawnskin.

AirportRazz my mother in Idaho has been using the water walls for years. She swears by them. Creates kind of of hot house effect when the sun warms the water. Her tomato plants are always spectacular.
bullet Lumber Jill ⭐ on Wednesday 15 May 2019 - 17:42:51
Sorry...I have heard of them but never tried them.
bullet Lumber Jill ⭐ on Wednesday 15 May 2019 - 17:37:07
Yes I have. I haven't tried them. Always thought the tops needed covering at night to help hold in the heat.
bullet Airport Razz on Wednesday 15 May 2019 - 17:32:36
Lumber Jill, have you ever tried a product called Water Walls? Plastic tube device you put around your peppers and tomatoes and you fill it with water and it keeps them from freezing as they get started earlier otherwise outside???? I didn't believe until I saw them in action.

Welcome EagleEye! Glad you made it in!
bullet Lumber Jill ⭐ on Wednesday 15 May 2019 - 17:15:32
If you plant anything tender, you can cover it with a sheet at night. I've done that to 7 tomatoes and 3 peppers for the last month and they have loved it!
bullet Benny ⭐ on Wednesday 15 May 2019 - 16:59:09
HIB, I'd hold off on any planting for maybe another week, as me this time next week!

MtnGiant, I have a number of clients that are and have fallen victim of the great tree topping genie and that answer to the liability, responsibility etc is a big NO. It all falls back onto the home owner. The electric company can't remove them or for some legal reason require them to be removed so the idea is to keep chopping at them until they do die and then the owners have to get rid of them per fire code. But Elec Comp takes no responsibility of anything after trimming. I just had firewood biscuits advertised for pickup that was a result of 6 of these for 2 properties over by summit. I believe it is fire code that gives them the authority to do the trimming to start with.
bullet KK on Wednesday 15 May 2019 - 15:40:38
CHP was there and had no Idea as to why.
bullet KK on Wednesday 15 May 2019 - 15:39:55
Stacy went by there and I believe they are doing road work. At least that is what the sign says. I live off of Mitchell.
bullet MountainGiant on Wednesday 15 May 2019 - 15:27:53
I had some questions and concerns regarding the tree trimming going on around the power lines through the neighborhoods. Some of these trees have been trimmed or topped over 50%. If these trees die, does Bear Valley Electric or whomever is in charge of this pay for the removal? Additionally, now that some of these trees are trimmed up to 25'-35' on a single side (the street side), does BVES or powers at be, carry any liability if those trees fall into homes due to the unbalancing of the tree? I understand that they need to clear branches around from power lines, but the company trimming obviously isn't giving any of this thought or consideration and is just cutting away. This isn't a rant, just generally wanting to know. Thanks.

Sorry Jeep Girl- second half of that wasn't directed at you! :-)
bullet BootsNBridles on Wednesday 15 May 2019 - 11:13:25
Jeep Girl- sadly the fenced part doesn't extend down to where the sled waste usually accumulates. As to what to do with your private property it depends on why you moved to Big Bear and why you own. We didn't fence ours because we want the wild ones to have access across it so they can get to water. We also want to be good neighbors and so if there's no need don't see why we should fence.
bullet Deborahavas on Wednesday 15 May 2019 - 10:30:26
We live on Malabar Way and lookover the Meadow to Shay Rd. We have seen many trees cut down in the Meadow over there recently.
We also just bought a lot that is a split lot on E. Big Bear Blvd. We bought it to keep it undeveloped and keep our view of the Meadow and Baldwin Lake.
The other half just sold and the old neighbor used our lot for parking and dogs to run. Will this be a problem now that we own half the property and don’t want the new owners to park or trash the part of the property we now own.
We don’t want to fence, but will see what the future holds. Thanks for all the great sharing we get here at
It’s been a life saver ~ literally some times.

I am not a flatlander but I do have a flat head.... forgot where I was going with this. Anyway, have a great Sunday everyone. Oh, I know, visit the Museum, sit in the shade with a cool sarsaparilla, and have a nice time. Yea, that was it.

From the other side of the coin: I was driving DTH, going the speed limit and had a line of cars in front of me. A old jeep came up on me very fast so I planned to use the next turnout. He didn't give me time to get there and he passed (illegally) on a curve only to nearly rear end the next car in line. He screamed at me as he went by. Did he have a woman in labor in the car? What on earth could be important enough to risk a head on collision? This isn't the only time I've had this happen over the years but it's usually a sports car. For those of you that flash you lights at me when I use the turnout for you...thanks! I always say"'re welcome!" out loud. My dog probably thinks I'm insane. She could be right.

I drive the Idyllwild road from Palm Desert, faster than most. I am more comfortable on mountain roads than freeways, but if someone is behind me, ill gladly let them pass, or ill pull over.

Aug 24 : 05:58pm
Tlingit! I just think we all need to obey the law! If you want to drive slow, then pull over! That’s all

Aug 24 : 05:01pm
wolfman If you go to the CA DMV webpage you can obtain the information for Driving laws in 103 languages!! When you go into a DMV office to pick up a Driver's Lic handbook, you can barely find an English one but they have one for every language listed. In each of those books there is clearly stated about the turnouts. Just like you and I if we have California Driver's License we are signing off to knowing all these laws and nowadays anyone can get a license. SO maybe during busy season some more CHP monitoring is needed which also generates income for the State so people get the message. To put a sign up with all the languages would obstruct the beautiful views of the mountains. If a poll be taken I would bet that 99% of the people who speed up etc speck only English! Can I mention!fanit dumb drivers again?
