WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR REPORTING / TRANSCRIBING ON SCM?
The rules below have been drawn up for those who relay information from a scanner or another source in order to establish some consistency with reporting on SCM.

1. Do NOT copy and paste from other sources. You may use other sources to get an idea of what might be going on, however, interpret and report in your own way.

2. Do NOT over sensationalize what you hear on the scanner or other sites. Interpret as is.

3. Do NOT add emotions into your transcription (I.E. "Oh my god" or "This isn't good"). If you transcribe a scanner transmissions saying "This doesn't look good", then that is fine, but do not add any of your own metaphors.

4. Do NOT report every transmission stated from a scanner. Most don't care that Engine 42 is going 45mph and is passing first street. Only report things that are significant of nature (I.E. fire acreage, fire jumping a line, fully engulfed structure fire, 5 cars over the side, heavy snow in the Arctic Circle, etc).

5. If you hear something on a scanner or other source and don't know where or exactly what it is, then DON'T REPORT IT. Saying "There is a brush fire somewhere" just gets peoples nerves up. Wait until you hear more factual information and then report it.

6. If you don't have facts, then DON'T report it.

7. With the exception of the Big Bear Scanner, report the source you got information from.

8. STAY CALM

We value our SCM Scanner Reporter volunteers and want to make sure SCM is offering the higest quality information.

Hi, I would like to attach a nice family Christmas tale (by Louisa May Alcott) that is 80kb in .pdf format. Nothing controversial!

Would that be OK?

Not too surprised! I worked at Snow Valley over 10 Seasons and something about how that area squeezes out the snow if it’s cold enough! Thanks for sharing!
