Hi All,

Found this in the Big Bear Life dated 5-29-1929. Is it true? Either way I love the story.

Moving Epidemic has the Whole Town

The new managers of Bartlett's called Art Heffner and Bill Knickerbocker into consultation, and between sunrise and sunset one day the building containing the office and living quarters at Bartlett's camp is moved 15 feet to the west, allowing for a driveway to be put in the rear, between Bartlett's and Bert's Misner's barbershop.Bill Knick, Bear Valley Strong Man picked the building up and set it over, Art along just to sort of steady things. Of course Art says you've got to have brains on the job to do anything like that. Bill says, it ain't having brains that gets you somewhere in the world, as it is having backbone and guts to do something-the doing it.

Now you all know the story, does anyone know if this is true?

Of course I made a typo,

At the end, Bill says, it ain't having brains that gets you somewhere in the world, as it is having backbone and guts to do something-THEN DOING IT.

Well said, Bill

I have read, and heard many stories of my Grandfather.
Most I believe. And many were his strength and his endurance.
This one seems a little far out. I am sure he moved the building. But did not do it with his back, so much as his brain.
I think one of the few things I inherited from him and my dad was the ability to use leverage to move heavy objects. There were house jacks in the family that I'm sure were used in this operation
Grandpa was not a big man. under six feet and probably not over 180 in his younger years.
I would never discount any story completly and he did more remarkable things then probably any other man I have read about but I try to get them as close to the source as possible.
Does anyone know which building this actualy was?
Bartlets owned a lot of places thru the years. A likely choice might have been this one, which was the main building for Indian lodge. If so I have no idea how they moved the fireplace.
there were some smaller buildings on the highway that could have almost have been moved by carrying them

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

The only information I have is what was printed in the paper. Thanks for the picture. Sure wish I could have been there to see him move the cabin.

So lets see- kids were in a tree building a fort, dropped a hammer, hit Goat in the face which caused him to crash into a camp fire where they were making fajitas thus burning his hand and getting fajita all over his shirt! Does that explain it?
