DATE/TIME OF REPORT: 05/09/11 12:00 Noon

LOCATION OF EVENT: San Bernardino National Forest – Alger Creek Area
near Momyer Trail north of Forest Falls at the 8,800’ level

CURRENT SITUATION: The Momyer Fire was reported Sunday, May 08, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the San Gorgonio Wilderness near the Alder Creek area of the San Bernardino National Forest. The fire is in the jurisdiction of the San Bernardino National Forest. The fire is at 100 to 120 acres with a slow rate of spread with moderate rate of spread when it hits dead fuels in the area. Two spot fires are located northeast of the main fire. Spot fires are from 2 to 5 acres each. Access is by foot only; no ground vehicle access is possible. Crews are hiking in to the fire. Aircraft have been ordered for the Momyer Fire and will be utilized as weather permits. Smoke may be visible in the mountains and valley areas today.

Current situation: The Momyer Fire began May 8, 2011 at approximately 10:30 a.m., and is actively burning in the San Gorgonio Wilderness in steep, rugged terrain. The fire is burning in a north/north east direction, west of Alger Creek and north of the Momyer Trail. Fire activity is moderate and expected to slow tonight.

Evacuations: None

Closures and road status: The Momyer and Vivian Creek Trails are closed until further notice.

strong winds are hampering air operations. The terrain makes it very difficult to get to the fire. All San Gorgonio Wilderness trails are closed.
