That was during the heyday of the old miners gazzette.
A handout that klisted all the events and parade route. A well done paper printed on yellow stock. The ads were all done in this format with bad spelling and the use of the word ass a lot. The ads were often the best part of the paper and some were very funny.

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

I remember when I was about 10 or 11 back in the early 60's going and watching the wranglers try to pull some of the burros along. Funnier then anything, the guys were cussing like crazy trying to get those asses to move in the desired direction.

Did the parade folks ever get the wranglers going in the right direction? They can be so stubborn at times.

Old miners used to be the highlight of summer and was promoted as the season closer from early on.
artists would hit the valley and store owners would pay to have a picture painted on their windows promting the event.
Town was packed at night with all ages in the spirit and having fun. Lots of drunks but they never seemed to be much of a problem.
Of course today the city sign ordanance people would shut down the window painting, and the bikers would again take over town for the weekend.
I hope they do enough good this time to get others interested in helping next year and trying to make it the way it used to be.

Ahh the good old days. Back when the public had an attention span and a sense of humor. Miss those days.

Somewhere I have a picture of me riding a burro! THe burro races were a big draw. THe whole race took three days, and went around the lake on the fire roads. It was not for the timid or our of shape!

Does, or did, the missing woman, Karen Doleman work at B's? She looked so familiar to my wife and I and we thought that was where we had seen her.
