Passing motorists reported a fire on the south side of State Highway 38 just after 2:00pm on Wednesday August 16, 2011 prompting a full wildland response from the United States Forest Service and local agencies.
Firefighters aggressively fought the fire, stopping it before it could spread into the adjacent Mountain Home Village neighborhood which surrounded the fire on three sides south of the highway. The swift action kept fire officials from closing the highway, or evacuating nearby residents.
Heaps Peak Helitack Helicopter 534 circled overhead and checked along the highway for additional spot fires as a precautionary tactic.
