We're in need of a locksmith that could help us unlock an antique desk after its move up here. It was my grandmothers so I'm guessing it's ~100 years old. We were trying to unlock it here when the key broke. I've got all the pieces of the key so the locksmith can see what it looks like. The hinges are hidden so there's no way I know of to take that route. Know anyone that would be up to that challenge? You might want to consult with Sam over at Fox Farm antiques. He does a lot of restoration etc, and may know who could do it. Say hi for me if you go there!

Excellent suggestion, Tobey. We did talk to him but mostly all he offered was sympathy. I managed to get all three pieces of the key out of the lock so I can tell what it's supposed to look like. Unfortunately, he didn't have any keys in his collection that were the same.
I guess that means I'm still asking if anyone (other than MGJ) has a recommendation. " A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you're talking real money" -attributed to Everett Dirksen

Since you have the pieces, I wonder if this company could help? [Click Here] No good deed goes unpunished.
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me alone.

Good find Bookie! I wish I had that site when I had an antique sideboard, we lost the key and got rid of it but didn't know what we had left in the drawer!
If you can wait until our next trip up the hill, Vern is practicing to be a thief in his next life. He has lock picks and he would be willing to give it a try.

Thanks, Deb. No hurry here. Let me know when you plan on coming up and we'd be glad to let Vern continue developing his craft. In the meantime, I think we'll also check out Bookie's find. Thanks to her, too! " A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you're talking real money" -attributed to Everett Dirksen

I'm guessing from the age that the lock and key are the original/vintage style and were not replaced by a modern key? I used to tinker with locks as a kid, even collected skeleton keys for old locks (lived in Maryland and Iowa as a kid where lots of the old locks were still around).
For those vintage locks, take a look at the following link. You might luck out and find a matching skeleton key or a key that is close enough you can trim notches to match the pieces from your original key.

Happy 35th anniversary to my wonderful wife Kimberly. It seems like only yesterday. Alas, three beautiful daughters, three perky grandkids, what more could a guy ask for.
