Most people have likely experienced brain freeze — the debilitating, instantaneous pain in the temples after eating something frozen — but researchers didn't really understand what causes it, until now.
Previous studies have found that migraine sufferers are actually more likely to get brain freeze than people who don't get migraines. Because of this, the researchers thought the two might share some kind of common mechanism or cause, so they decided to use brain freeze to study migraines.
I don’t need your attitude thanks, I have one of my own!

Very interesting...I get migraines, and I have to be very careful about really cold drinks or ice cream. Also, when I was a youngster, I broke out in hives on the back of my thighs from sitting on a cold cement step. The doctor said I had an "allergy to cold" wonder if it's all related.

You sure you didn't sit on a bee hive? I hear those were popular back in the day, oh maybe that was a hair style? FOLLOW @BENSWEATHER NOW ON TWITTER!

Nope, it was a step....but I am allergic to bees too!
Interesting that cold causes the same effect, but docs have known about the association of vessel dilation and migraines for decades. What doesn't kill me does NOT make me stronger. It makes me anxious, bitchy, and vulnerable...but nobody wants to see that embroidered on a pillow...Lisa Kogan...thx LXL...sorry i stole it from you! Ok, maybe I'm not sorry :-P

Yes, that is why they have been using Ergot derivatives for many years to treat migraine, as well as for stimulating labor. It is a powerful vaso-constrictor. It is interesting to note that migraine sufferers are MORE susceptible to the brain freeze. Who iknows..maybe it will lead to better treatments for migraine sufferers!
Maybe migraine sufferers (me included) have triggers that are set off too easily, or that over react, dilating too much, more than non-migraine sufferers. Interesting that brain freeze can help the study. What doesn't kill me does NOT make me stronger.
