FROM THE USGS WEBSITE:

Q: What is the probability that an earthquake is a foreshock to a larger earthquake?

A: Worldwide the probability that an earthquake will be followed within 3 days by a large earthquake nearby is somewhere just over 6%. In California, that probability is about 6%. This means that there is about a 94% chance that any earthquake will NOT be a foreshock. In California, about half of the biggest earthquakes were preceded by foreshocks; the other half were not. At this time, we cannot tell whether or not an earthquake is a foreshock until something larger happens after it... so only in retrospect.

Does anyone know what the time-line for finishing the repaving on Hwy 38? I know it was started last summer but stopped last Fall and doesn't appear to have started again. Just curious

I remember Matich doing the same operation before the fire evacuations in 2003 and it was the final knife in the back for no longer traveling to Lake Arrowhead for work. I had to pay anywhere from 3-4 hours extra a day just for the crew to sit in traffic breaks. What a nightmare, at least this time I wont have to deal with it too much. Good luck to anyone going back and forth to Lake Arrowhead/Crestline.

I have been dealing with Matich working on North Bay (Arrowhead). They seem to be efficient and their drivers are uncommonly courteous when it comes to using turnouts etc.

billboy, we have a member that will keep us well informed about Matich as he works for them. He will tell us of all delays and problems.
Thanks for your information

It is months -not weeks:
Matich Corporation begins an 18-month road construction project Wednesday, Sept. 9, that stretches from Talmadge Road in Big Bear Lake to Crestline.

The projects includes grinding and asphalt overlay. Work takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday though Friday. One-way traffic control will be in effect and delays are expected. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes to and from the mountains, and to use North Shore Drive if it's necessary to use Highway 18 to Highway 330.
