FROM THE USGS WEBSITE:

Q: What is the probability that an earthquake is a foreshock to a larger earthquake?

A: Worldwide the probability that an earthquake will be followed within 3 days by a large earthquake nearby is somewhere just over 6%. In California, that probability is about 6%. This means that there is about a 94% chance that any earthquake will NOT be a foreshock. In California, about half of the biggest earthquakes were preceded by foreshocks; the other half were not. At this time, we cannot tell whether or not an earthquake is a foreshock until something larger happens after it... so only in retrospect.

Sorry CaptMike, it wasn't my intention to make you feel bad for throwing the cigs out when you were younger. Just wanted to share what my dtr does with them. I'm overly cautious about smoking since my parents died in a house fire in 88 cause my mom was fell asleep with one.

Another long ago tinder dry summer I saw a guy toss a lit cig. He pulled into the Car Wash. I stopped at the sheriffs and swore out a complaint. They had me follow them and point him out. WHY? didn't matter. They came and whined a bit about how he was a good guy and didn't have a license and how this could end his job and yada yada. They made me feel like the criminal. I am SO glad today's sheriffs are a whole different breed!

Speaking of which, we have a nice severe thunderstorm to our east in the high desert, great lightning show for those who can see to our east. Unfortunately it's moving north east well away from us... Night all, have a grreat weekend.

Youth is the time to make stupid choices. No shame in that, as long as you learned from them (eventually)

I believe it was my husband who gave her the idea since he has spent more than 35 yrs putting out fires and didn't want her to throw the cigs out the window.
