Live Oak Drive will undergo construction starting Monday June 4th, 2012. We will start the major portion of the work on Monday June 4th, and expect it to continue for about 4 to 5 weeks. The road will be completely reconstructed during this time frame. Local residential traffic and commuter traffic will be impacted with wait times of 10 to 15 minutes possible. We would strongly suggest commuter traffic avoid the road during construction to prevent delays to their schedules. The best route will be the 18 to the 330 in Running Springs for up bound and down bound traffic during this time. Signs have been posted at both ends of Live Oak to advise the public of the delays. Emergency vehicles will always be moved through the construction zone first to prevent delays should an emergency take place somewhere in the construction zone. We would ask that the public please follow the posted speed limit signs and practice safe driving while in the construction zone. Please refrain from using cell phones while in the construction zone. The safety and well being of the workers and the motoring public in the construction zone is of the utmost importance, so we need everyone to be cautious and careful while driving.

Also - watch your step. It is baby rattler season. Where there is one, there are probably 10-20 more. Saw a one-button baby - very pretty - that came from the north end of Mt. Doble/Gold Mountain.

There have been at least one cougar in the far reaches of Baldwin Lake and Lake William for several years.

I believe this young one is trying to find his own territory, away from the old one.

Careful folks- if it was spotted in Shay the normal daily range will take it all the way into Erwin Lake and possibly even Lake Williams.

Actually, I believe it is 4.5 feet LONG. It is believed to be a young cat. Perhaps it was pushed out of the territory of a larger/older cat?

Jerry B is having trouble logging in. He asked me to tell everyone: "A little heads up for the people out in the Shay Meadows area, a mountain lion was in a backyard of a house in the 1300 block on East Big Bear Blvd. close to Shay Rd fork on 5/17 Friday morning. The cat is 4 and ½ feet tall."

So sad to hear about the discovery of a body near Crystal Mountain.
