Thank goodness that did not pass! Now all those do-gooders who voted yes can start turning out their pockets and make private donations to the school district. If they go a bit over a hundred a piece, they will have accomplished their goal and can feel good about themselves. Summer will be here soon!
Has anyone in the school admin taken a pay cut? have their hours been docked, furlow days for them? Any supplies they have to pay for out of their paycheck to do the job?
Till they have the same done to them I will not vote for any increase in my tax base!
Legally no BVUSD administration wages are allowed to be paid by Measure M funds.
By voting for a measure to cover other expenses, that frees money to cover administrative cost, so it's the same thing. Ernest's point is valid...where is the leadership? I will be the first in line to sign up for my pay cut WHEN I am led by example! When they are asked how they could approve a raise for the Board(this is OCC) they say "oh it's such a small amount in comparison to the deficit that it won't have an impact" How about the impact to morale? How about taking me for the team so that you can make it more tolerable for the ones being hit hardest?
I was on a faculty oversight committee for a Measure passed quite a few yrs ago for OCC. I know all the games that are played to spend the money any way that the administrators want, then the staging that is done to doop the public into voting for another Measure!
Vote NO on Measure M and ANY measure or tax. The government gets ENOUGH money! Throwing more money at someone or something that doesn't know how to manage the fortune it already has will only result in more inappropriate wasting of our hard earned money!
This short article seems to answer most of your questions. Doesn't appear that too many folks on this thread have actually read the details of the Measure. Lots of assuming done here as usual...
Ah Mackie, you should not ASSume anything of the sort about the folks here, we read AND understand what is put in front of us, if you voted yes for it well you just gave them the ability to take money out of the school fund for what ever they want to use it for because the money from M would only be used for buses nothing else and any money in the budget for buses well it just got reASSigned to what they want to spend it on.
I don’t need your attitude thanks, I have one of my own!

1st, nice points BBEgroup.
2nd, thank you for all of you people that voted no on this new tax. Sanity prevailed.....this time....next time, and I am sure there will be one, we need to do more to spread the word.
3rd. I am being accused, by some, of having to do with the non-passage of this measure. Yea, like I, one person, would have that kind of power. What a joke.
4th. How about the schools suggest a "donation" from all students to attend? How about old-fashioned fund raisers such as cake walks or others?
5th. Let's just blame all the "child haters" for the non-passage of this measure.
6th. Some Measure M supporters should be ashamed of just how much mud they slung, all in the name of "the children". Shut Up and Fish!
MtMan, guess about 48.9% of folks felt the way you did, so Head up stand straight and know you are among others that think the same, now in November if Oby is kicked out we can all celebrate for real. I don’t need your attitude thanks, I have one of my own!

The school district should follow the lead of other school districts.
Here is a good quote from the Huffington Post at [Click Here]
"And there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of municipalities involved in this. A 2010 Wall Street Journal article about how states and cities were losing money on derivatives noted that in Pennsylvania alone, 107 school districts owned interest-rate derivatives during the time period banks were allegedly manipulating rates.
That's 107 school districts in one state alone losing untold millions of dollars because of lower interest rates, which may have been lower than they should have been because of Libor manipulation. That's 107 school districts in one state alone that had a harder time paying teachers, buying computers, of funding art programs."
"Lawsuits Brewing State and local officials across the country are now meeting to determine their damages from interest rate swaps, which are held by about three-fourths of America’s major cities. Damages from LIBOR rate-rigging are being investigated by Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, officers at CalPERS (California’s public pension fund, the nation’s largest), and hundreds of hospitals. One victim that is fighting back is the city of Oakland, California. On July 3, the Oakland City Council unanimously passed a motion to negotiate a termination without fees or penalties of its interest rate swap with Goldman Sachs. If Goldman refuses, Oakland will boycott doing future business with the investment bank. Jane Brunner, who introduced the motion, says ending the agreement could save Oakland $4 million a year, up to a total of $15.57 million—money that could be used for additional city services and school programs. Thousands of cities and other public agencies hold similar toxic interest rate swaps, so following Oakland’s lead could save taxpayers billions of dollars."

I mailed today a copy of Ellen Brown's article to Randall Putz, President of the Board of Trustees for the Big Bear Valley Unified School District. “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free…it expects what never was and will never be.” Thomas Jefferson

I was wondering if anyone who was involved in posting the handmade No on M signs was going to make an effort to take them down. There are still several in the area. I don't want to remove them since they aren't mine.
I am all for First Amendment rights, but the remaining signs are a bit of an eyesore.

I agree N, they are not my signs but really, guess we could take them down now, especially since the measure did not pass. I think that would not infringe on the 1st. Shut Up and Fish!

a bit late to the party.. you don't need the waiver to ride the sky chair if you are walking. Only bike riders need the waiver. The walk down is a different path this year and steeper.
