Cammy was digging a hole in our yard and dug this up...

After extensive research (don't you love the internet?!) this can is from 1947-1950. There was also a bottle (called a steinie) consistent with the type used by Acme in the same time frame, but there was no label, or markings on the bottle body. It does have marks on the underside that I have yet to interpret.

We have found lots of things buried ii our yard (apparently garbage was used to level the area around the cabin) such as an old wood burning stove, countless cans fill with rocks, and even an old tobacco can. But this beer can is the first that has led me to specific information about the era the work was done. The cabin was built in the early 40's and apparently the garage was added in the late 40's. I now understand why the garage foundation is falling over (besides the fact that it was built on a steep slope and over a big hole.)

No wonder they went out of business, couldn't even figure out the right end of the can to put the tab on.

I learned that when I was a kid because we tore down a wall at our home and found cans in the brick wall just like this so my dad told me about how cans did not have pull tabs back it the old days. Smile

hard to believe most of you are younger then pop tops.
Coors had one of the first and it was two holes that took a special can opener. The small one was the vent and opened first, and the large one you drank out of.
In Knickerbocker creek there used to be a bridge across it and there were, and probably still are thousands of old cans. I think it is just above the cemented section.
I don't remember seeing an acme but from the can I wonder if it is an early Busche beer?

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

Sounds as if Acme didn't survive through the 50's. North Coast Brewing owns the brand and still makes an Acme IPA and Pale Ale. [Click Here]

a bit late to the party.. you don't need the waiver to ride the sky chair if you are walking. Only bike riders need the waiver. The walk down is a different path this year and steeper.
