I never really looked, and I am sure they are needed in todays world but I never thought churches had locks? Kind of defeats the purpose of the whole idea.
As to the definition? I have no clue, that is what they have always been called. I didn't know the cap removers were called that. In my day most were the two ended ones. The cap removers were reserved for coca cola bottles.
Vending machines had built in openers that let the cap drop into a can. The empty wooden coke case was along side to place your bottle in when finished. I think a 2 cent deposit on the bottle must have come along when I was very young. We used to keep our eyes out and even walked the roads looking for ones that were thrown out. If you were lucky you found the quart bottles, they were worth five cents.
Lazy broke kids would try to snag bottles from behind stores which had bad security then take them around to the front and collect the deposit.

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

And not for their beer.

Cammy found 3 more bottles in the same hole, 1 with a partial label. I'm not having much luck identifying it.

hard to believe most of you are younger then pop tops.
Coors had one of the first and it was two holes that took a special can opener. The small one was the vent and opened first, and the large one you drank out of.
In Knickerbocker creek there used to be a bridge across it and there were, and probably still are thousands of old cans. I think it is just above the cemented section.
I don't remember seeing an acme but from the can I wonder if it is an early Busche beer?

I think about you every month when I write down "Knickerbocker Creek" as I am part of the crew that pulls the water from the creek for it's monthly test.

P.S. That Acme can was a common product in our household when I was a wee one.

how is it doing?

We used to stop at the mouth of the canyon on our hikes. There was a pipe running the sweetest, coldest water I ever tasted.
Probably loaded with disease The pipe went clear up to the first meadow. I think it used to feed Pine Knot camp. Besides drinking water they used it to cool their cold room they kept the food in
