A must see.

Why We Fight.

He may have been the ultimate icon of 1950s conformity and postwar complacency, but Dwight D. Eisenhower was an iconoclast, visionary, and the Cassandra of the New World Order. Upon departing his presidency, Eisenhower issued a stern, cogent warning about the burgeoning "military industrial complex," foretelling with ominous clarity the state of the world in 2004 with its incestuous entanglement of political, corporate, and Defense Department interests.

Ike was a very good POTUS.

Fun Fact.
Call-sign Air Force One
Over New York City in 1953, Eastern Airlines Flight 8610, a commercial flight, had a near miss with Air Force Flight 8610, a Lockheed C-121 Constellation known as Columbine II, while the latter was carrying President Eisenhower. This prompted the adoption of the unique call sign Air Force One, to be used whenever the president is on board any US Air Force aircraft. Columbine II is the only presidential aircraft to have ever been sold to the public. The aircraft was purchased by Dynamic Aviation in 2015 and in collaboration with the Mid America Flight Museum, was restored to flying condition. On March 21, 2016, Columbine II was flown to Virginia where restoration work will continue

On a lighter note.

The Frozen North.
Documentary of Dick Proenneke's solitary, daily life in remote Alaska. Based on a video he shot himself with his 16 mm Bolex camera.

Richard Louis "Dick" Proenneke (May 4, 1916 – April 20, 2003) was a self educated naturalist who lived alone for nearly thirty years in the mountains of Alaska in a log cabin he had constructed by hand near the shore of Twin Lakes. Proenneke hunted, fished, raised and gathered his own food, and also had supplies flown in occasionally. He documented his activities in journals and on film, and also recorded valuable meteorological and natural data. The journals and film were later used by others to write books and produce documentaries about his time in the wilderness.

In 1999, at age 82, Proenneke returned to civilization and lived the remainder of his life with his brother Raymond "Jake" Proenneke in Hemet, California. He died of a stroke April 20, 2003, at the age of 86. He left his cabin to the National Park Service, and it remains a popular visitor attraction in the still-remote Twin Lakes region of Lake Clark National Park.

What do you do with thousands of Atari game cartridges no one will buy ?? Dump them in a landfill in New Mexico of course.

If your 50ish you'll enjoy this one.

"In September 1983, the Alamogordo Daily News of Alamogordo, New Mexico, reported in a series of articles that between ten and twenty semi- trailer truckloads of Atari boxes, cartridges, and systems from an Atari storehouse in El Paso, Texas, were crushed and buried at the landfill within the city. It was Atari's first dealings with the landfill, which was chosen because no scavenging was allowed and its garbage was crushed and buried nightly. Atari officials and others gave differing reports of what was buried, but it has been speculated that most unsold copies of E.T. are buried in this landfill, crushed and encased in cement. The story of the buried cartridges was regarded by some as an urban legend, with skeptics—including Warshaw—disregarding the official accounts."

Storyline

A crew digs up all of the old Atari 2600 game cartridges of "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" that were tossed into a landfill in the 1980s.

A powerful documentary from an Auschwitz survivor.

Storyline

One Day in Auschwitz is an hour-long documentary produced by USC Shoah Foundation. The film follows Holocaust survivor Kitty Hart-Moxon as she returns to Auschwitz-Birkenau with two high school students, Natalia Smith and Lydia Hollingsworth, to tell them her story. The girls are the same age Kitty was - 15 - when she was imprisoned in Auschwitz with her mother. When the Nazis invaded Poland, Kitty's family was quickly split up. Her older brother joined the Russian army and was killed in the Battle of Stalingrad. A priest who was a friend of her mother's got false papers for Kitty and her mother to get them out of Poland and into Germany, but someone suspected them of being Jews and gave them up to the police. The two were shipped to Auschwitz. In the film, Kitty explains the various ways she and her mother were able to survive. Kitty got herself a job manning the latrines - foul work, but it kept her from being selected for death.

Pretty interesting episode.

The Nature Of Things: My Brain Made Me Do It.

We've all heard people say, 'It was beyond my control' or 'I couldn't stop myself'. We like to think that we're all ultimately in control of our actions. But how true is this really? Neuroscientists are generating ground breaking research that sheds light on why some people can't stop themselves from committing harmful or criminal acts. This is creating new challenges for the justice system and making us re-evaluate the way we sentence, punish, and rehabilitate people for criminal behaviour. Featuring lead scientist, David Eagleman, Director of the Center for Science and Law, and author of international best-selling books, Incognito and The Brain, My Brain Made Me Do It challenges our most fundamental beliefs about crime, punishment, and free will.

Who shoot down TWA 800 ??
This one every American should watch.

A thought-provoking documentary about the ill-fated Trans World Airline Flight 800 to Paris, France, which exploded on July 17, 1996 just 12 minutes after takeoff from JFK International Airport, killing all 230 people on board. The special features six former members of the official crash investigation breaking their silence to refute the officially proposed cause of the jetliner's demise and reveal how the investigation was systematically undermined.

Not a true doc, but it's a lot of fun.

Alien Planet is a 94-minute docufiction, originally airing on the Discovery Channel, about two internationally built robot probes searching for alien life on the fictional planet Darwin IV. It was based on the book Expedition, by sci-fi/fantasy artist and writer Wayne Douglas Barlowe, who was also executive producer on the special. It premiered on May 14, 2005.

The show uses computer-generated imagery, which is interspersed with interviews from such notables as Stephen Hawking, George Lucas, Michio Kaku and Jack Horner. The show was filmed in Iceland and Mono Lake in California.

Mystery in Yellowstone.

Why are Elk numbers on the decline ?
Is it Wolves, Bears, disease ? Nope, appears to be from an invasive non-native fish, the Lake Trout. But of course humans are the real culprit, we're the ones that brought in the Lake Trout.

Very good doc, from The Smithsonian
Awesome scenery.

Btw, I saw a plow on the 38 by Hatchery. No chain control posted yet. Could become an issue as downhiller's may try to leave early with no chains (may not be necessary later once the sun has had a chance to melt things)
