I've been stumbling around now to find out where to apply for this helicopter insurance. After the discussion several weeks ago I finally realized it would be smart to join. Duh! I checked out this thread on the subject [Click Here] from a year ago but links in there don't work.

I did mistakenly apply to one called Mercy Flights (because I didn't catch the "Flights" rather than "Air" part of the company's name) but they were nice enough to send me a check to refund my subscription amount with an explanation that they didn't serve my area. Embarrassing to say the least and I plead senioritis.

So, can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Hi All, Mercy Air is replacing its membership program with a new program called "NO MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED". Under this new program patients flown by Mercy Air do not need a membership! By working through Mercy Air's/Air Methods Patient Advocates the average out of pocket expense for patients in the Big Bear area is $105.00!!!

Also, if you are on Medicare or MediCal you are already covered for such flights by any operator, so no need to purchase a membership from any service. And keep in mind that in order to take advantage of a membership benefit you MUST be flown by the member company. If their aircraft is not available (on a flight, down for maintenance or no crew available) and you are flown by another company, you are not covered by your membership. More to come!

Thanks Mark!
I had heard that the fire department had stopped doing new policies.
So now we don't have to worry about a $40,000 bill if we need to be flown dth?
Thanks for the info, John!

Sorry, Mark. I'd meant to close out the thread after you'd responded to my pm. But, in the end, I guess this gave you a chance to get the word out to a larger audience. Looking forward to that more information you mentioned!

When I lived in Crestline 4 and a half to 6 years ago, I used to go walking through Crestline, North of Toptown(and South too), though not very far. Rockbadger, are you closer to the Rim or down behind that ridge on the Woodland road area? I'm asking because I would always be on Crestforest Drive and do not remember ever really walking the streets below there.

It sounds like you have been out before the storm even started.

No ETA.We can’t even find our area on the outage maps. Calling yesterday was fruitless.

Rockbadger, I can hardly imagine what you are dealing with. I would leave and stay somewhere else until power is finally restored.

I remember similar back in the 90s when we used to do caretaking in Crestline. Made the drive over, might have been March Miracle. Turned off main street and looked a box of giant match sticks thrown around. 50-100 trees per every block. Something to tell the grandkids is only benefit for the struggle. Keep the hurricane lamp going

Have a great day from all of us at SCM!

Rockbadger did they give you an eta or anything?

Dec 04 : 09:35pm
Today was torrential rains. Then just in case there weren’t enough trees and tree branches down, the wind started up.

😂You would think. Actually just north of Top Town in Crestline. Top of the 18 near where 18/138 intersect. Not like it is the boonies...

Dec 04 : 09:00pm
OMG RockBadger! Where the heck do you live? The north pole?? WOW

Evening all.Day 7 without electricity comes to an end. Looking forward to day 8...🤣

I recommended Travelers Insurance a few months ago. After being with them for over 20 years, I got my termination letter today. Thanks to all who recommended John Murphy. Will definitely contact him.

I also highly recommend John Murphy. We just had him do our policy and it went from 3k through Farmers to $1800.
