City mouth service During Covid Obvious not enforced

Lodging and vacation rentals will be limited to 50% occupancy at any given time. Additionally, renters will be instructed to bring their own food and supplies to ease the burden on supplies at our local supermarkets. Committee member, Jo Ann Cecil, added that occupancy at this time of year is typically only at 40% so the limitation of 50% is a great place to start.

Out of curiosity, is North Shore/Fawnskin bound by BBL rules? Or vice versus?

Don't blame me! I was left unsupervised!

You can divide the world into two kinds of people: Those who divide the world into two kinds of people and those who don't!

I feel like we are at 150% capacity everywhere, especially in Moonridge. Its like New Years Eve every night. So many people with so many cars. People were setting fireworks off the other night in so many places I couldn't tell where they were coming from.

In June of 2017, four of us concerned citizens met with former City Manger Jeff Matthieu regarding all of the short-term rental issues: number of rentals, lack of consideration for residents, noise/trash, unlicensed rentals operating under the radar, etc. Mr. Matthieu told us that the City of BBL would never limit the number of STRs, that the tourists came first, the second homeowners second, and the residents third. We are now 3 years later and the only thing that seems to have changed is that there are more rentals and less enforcement than ever.

BB Lake now has a new city manger who has come on board just this spring as Covid-19 reared its ugly head; hopefully, having come from another resort community, he is (or is becoming) aware of the issues on both sides which have become exacerbated by the pandemic. At an early Covid-19 taskforce meeting, he stated that there are currently approx. 2200 licensed STRs in the city of BBL; I'd imagine that the outlying county areas easily equal that.

We all are very aware that we live in a resort area; that's not the issue, imo. The issue is that there are NO LIMITS on the number of houses that are being turned into STRs (and as of late, enforcement has been hit or miss). Some tourist cities/areas limit how many nights per year any house can be rented; others restrict rentals to certain areas/neighborhoods; still others grant a set number of rentals licenses/permits annually. Any or all of these are possible modifications to what's happened to the BB Valley as of late.

I won't even get into the back-to-back rentals so many of us are seeing since late May when they all reopened, possibly compromising the health of housekeepers and subsequent guests alike. County "safe practices" currently states that all renters must be of the same household unit; not seeing that either, with out of state license plates from multiple states all staying together.

Please consider making your feelings known to Third District County Supervisor Dawn Rowe. There is an online "concern" form you can fill out here: [Click Here]

Or you can e-mail Ms. Rowe directly at: Supervisor.Rowe©bos.sbcounty.gov

Lip service.
That’s all it is.
A bunch of BS.
They do nothing.
I called and called code enforcement, who asked me to knock on the door to find out who was there. I know the owners and it wasn’t them, back when no one was supposed to be allowed to rent to vacationers. Renting just continued and now the place is “never” empty.... but..... it’s allowed now.

I drive down the mountain regularly. I have never seen as much traffic as I've seen this summer. Every time I come back up there are LONG lines of cars slowly winding their way up the mountain- 24 to 30 cars long! I am used to seeing this on either side of the weekend but I've seen this kind of traffic every single day of the week. That says to me that Big Bear is overcrowded. We should be very very glad the Apple fire went east instead of west.

Read the entire article. It is about the control over the vacation rentals in So. Lake Tahoe. The new City Manager, Frank Rush, left So. Lake Tahoe shortly thereafter. He was on the job for only a year. I can pretty much figure he will not do anything about these vacation rentals.

Hi All -- It's been soooo long since i last worked with video.... I forgot how much effort it takes to work with, upload, and publish.... even if its a quick & dirty turnaround...

Anyways, I pushed yesterday's clips of Fire Boss crew doing dips at the lake and today's clips of air operations (refueling) at BB Airport up into a YouTube play list. YouTube allows for playback of the video at full-res (something that Google Photos doesn't provide) Have at it!

The heavy-lift skycrane is pretty impressive!

A big "Thanks" goes to Wingnut for providing me access to the tarmac!
