BBB I posted a picture taken from the air the other day. BSF got hold of me and told me the airport is actualy in the picture. It was just west of the old firestation across the little ditch that was there and was north south. I had thought it was Eat west. here it is again with the strip circled.

probably less then either. It took us awhile to figure out the time frame of that picture. It is really fun to look at . The old post office was under construction the fire station was in the building west of the landing. It was before they built the two trout ponds that they later had. I think I have all of the series in the history photo section. hardlt anything in that picture is still around Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

Rumor Mill: I had heard that several people had landed at horse thief flats over the years an yes Fred did have a claim on the flats as well as the Fife family. from Lucerne. I never tried to land their, long walk out if I screwed up. The FS buldozed the area after it caught fire when the FS got the marines to blast the road closed an blew up the cabin to keep people out of the area. set the whole area a blaze. Then the FS tried to blame it on the sheriffs dept. Don Fife had the mining claim on the area at that time an made the FS re open the road. 3B: The landing strip in town was never more than a landing strip when thew lake was low. as far as an airport in moonridge goes, a guy in upper moonridge ocasionally landed his plane on the wide strip an tied it down right where the fire dept bldg. is now. Fred has taken off on the lower part of Moonridge golfcourse with his cub, an thats a different story in its self. BSF nicks friend

Just wondering, was the airport (present location) always publicly owned? There was a man by the name of T.M. Page that had a large business in my hometown and kept a V-tail Bonanza in a hanger on the north side. Someone once told me he owned the airport, but I doubt that.

socalman: The airport was owned by the Peter Pan Club an cattle grazed on it till some time in the 50s. Banks, I think was his name was the major stock holder in the Peter Pan Club, kept threatened to subdevide the airport property an told Ted Page, if he diden't buy the property he was going to cut it up. That conversation went on for several years till Done Turner the general manager for peter pan went out an put a bunch of grade stakes up to make it look like they were starting to subdevide the property. when Ted flew in that weekend he saw all the grade stakes an hurried over to the peter pan club to find out what was going on, Doan told him they were subdeviding the airport property. Ted took the bait hook line an sinker an baught the airport an operated it for many years. When his health started to decline in his later years he sold the airport to the special district that runs it now, an moved to Hesperia. Ted was a great person, an you could never find a better friend to have than Ted Page SR. BSF nicks friend

The County of San Bernardino owned the Airport up to 1974 at which time a group decided to break away the county and start a special district. I don't know how the county acquired the property . But what I do know is when the county decided that did not want to have the airport these five people, Bill Otto, Phillip Reames, and three more which I can get there names were the driving force in making it what it is today. I believe If the county was involved it would be trashed. Just my .02 cent.
