Sunflower25, you mention the business lasting until about 1954. Is it possible that it lasted into the late 50's or even early 60's? For some reason I seem to remember one of the farms being around then but I could be very wrong. While we did not live in the area, my family was constantly vacationing in the BBC area. In '54 I would probably have been too young to remember it, but you never know. Heck, I can't remember what I had for dinner last night!
I heard that a deal with russia and the cancelation of military contracts brought the end to the profits and the fox farms. not sure what year. Russia still has almost a death penalty for trying to smuggle sable out of the country. about ten years ago I saw a strange weasel looking critter near the East ramp. I would like to think some ermin escaped and have a small population Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

Three years ago there was a fox that was living under the deck of our neighbor's place. It was always coming out and drinking from the bird bath in front of out place. It became almost tame and would even lay in our driveway while we were in the yard or on the front porch. One day someone who was renting a place near us freaked out and called animal control or fish and game and complained about the coyote. Believe me, my dth home is in coyote country and this was NOT a coyote. They ended up trapping it.

Fox are suckers for a varmint call. "I was goin' faster than I'd ever gone before, when I fell off." - 'Little' from "Little Faus and Big Halsey" "Microsoft is very sorry." - David Pogue, "The Missing Manual" series, Vista edition "Don't bother me; I'm clinging to my guns and Religion." - bc

you were very lucky to see a fox. While there are many around they are very shy. I think I have only seen two of them
One was by doing something very unusual. I walked a couple hundred yards to a good spot very quietly. sat down and didn't move. After about ten minutes things returned to normal. I was downwind of a small trail and after another ten minutes a doe walked through followed not long after by a fox. Neither knew I was there and they had walked within 30 feet of me. Another time in the same area I tried a couple things I had heard about but never tried. One was taking a hike very slowly making no noise. It took me about a half hour to walk 200 yards. I walked near the edge of a valley and almost stepped on a deer. She went ten feet in the air and quickly vanished. I saw her going over another ridge later and have no idea how she got there without me seeing her. The other really neat thing was after I read some stuff on deer I was hunting and saw three deer again upwind of me. The thing about deer is that they don't see colors well and while they can detect movement if you don't move they can't see you. Also if their head is down they can't see you. Try it sometime but make sure they can't smell you. I carefuly got within 20 feet of them while being in full sight the whole time. I think if I hadn't got to shaking to much I could have touched one of them (I don't advise this) By the time the buck finaly made eye contact and knew I was there I had buck fever so bad I had no chance of hitting him. They went up the canyon and past a friend I had placed there in case I drove one his way he never saw them. Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

Sunflower25: What made your foxfarm unique an different from other fox farms, was the brody pit, the old saw blade we used for a target, an the oportunity to blow something up ocasionally. BSf nicks friend

BSF now you really have my interest. where was their farm?, and what is the story? Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

I've heard that there may still be some treetop observation decks remaining, but in all my walks around the FF neighborhood (at least where I think the farms were located), I haven't seen any. Does anyone know if any still exists, and if so, where?
Interesting you should mention that. My neighbor (in Fox Farm) claims what I thought was just a tree house was really one of the old observation decks. I took a few pictures of it this afternoon to let those that know more either confirm that's what it is or debunk my neighbor's theory.

the ones I have seen were much higher then that and had planks nailed to trees. and that looks to be in pretty good shape If that is one I am thinking about I think it was a treehouse. Swing down by the nursery and you shoud see one of the old ones to compare The ones I remember were about that size. had a door and open viewing windows Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.
