Garstin Island visit with Big Bear Historical Society
RichardG, Thu Aug 18 2016, 03:08PM

Recently the Big Bear Historical Society was able to visit and tour Garstin Island. I was able to take several photographs during that tour. I will post three or four at a time since the internet server seems to be limiting the amount of data it will accept at one time. This will also give time for other socalmountain members to respond. I would especially invite Chris Cook to comment since he was also on the tour and was listening more to the guide rather than taking photos like myself.

Wow, looks the same as when I visited it years ago when Helen leased that Island. Glad to see its staying in good shape with some improvements!

Here are some additional photos from the outside. Note the one unusual photo is of the utility lines/pipes going to the island. Now would be a good time to update or do any needed repairs.

Great pictures, thanks for posting! It now looks at it did when I kept my boat docked there in the late 90's, early 2000's when you could walk to it.

I'm not sure who's taken ownership since Helen passed away, but I know a few of my friends are helping restore it. But again, I don't know her involvement with it, who she knows and why she's helping.

Regardless it looks great, I stayed there once, a very fun, unique experience!

Here are some photos of one of the bedroom buildings. The last photo was taken in a panoramic mode so it is a little distorted.

Looks like you don't need a boat to get to it now.

Isn't it on the list of historical places? So whoever buys it must maintain it in the condition which earned it that place? I sure hope so. Would hate to see a McMansion on it.

Its a forest lease so there are a bunch of conditions on the property that go along with that
