...and it takes awesome pictures! I just took these a few minutes ago. They are raw, unedited pictures (except for cropping and putting my name on them).

This one is a cropped section of the first photo, at full resolution. If you look closely, you can see the rover the Apollo 17 guys left up there.
Those long distance shots are impressive, Roger! What make and model if I may be so bold?
Thank you! They don't always come out that great. Sometimes it's too hazy or there's too much heat/atmosphere shimmering to get pictures that clear that far away. But I can't wait to see more bald eagles! For the first time in about 15 years, I went with a non-Sony camera. This is the Nikon P1000. I just couldn't resist the 125x optical zoom after R pointed it out to me.
Cap'n Crunch - yes on the tripod for the night shots, no for the ski resort daytime shots, and I don't specifically remember on the ones down by the lake, I think so on the first 2, but maybe not on the duck.

Amazing they can cram 16 MegaPixels on a little fingernail.

Im going to have a buddy stand on the top of Santiago peak and wave. Cammy, can you get a picture of him??
I tried to photograph the comet. This is the best I could get. I circled the comet in the second picture.

Cool shots Roger! I was able to see it with the naked eye a couple nights ago. It was difficult to see but I could make it out like your photos represent.

Cammy, would you mind sharing your set-up? I`m looking to get a decent (not super expensive) set-up for all of the great photo opportunities here on the lake. I don`t have a clue what set-up to go with...Thanks in advance, Squatch
This camera is the Nikon P1000. What I liked most about it is that it has 125x optical zoom. Some lesser expensive options include: Nikon P900, which has 83x optical zoom (my mom has this one) Sony HX400V with 50x optical zoom (I also own one of these)
I think any one of these cameras would be a good choice, depending on how much money you want to spend. The thing I really like about these "all in one" cameras is that you don't have to change lenses depending on if you want a wide angle picture or a zoomed view. One thing to note - the P1000 is a huge, heavy camera. I definitely wouldn't want to carry it when I go hiking. But for taking pictures of wildlife along the lake, the zoom can't be beat! But with that zoom, you probably want to keep a sturdy tripod nearby as photos will appear out of focus/blurry at full zoom unless there's either a lot of light out (bright mid day sun) or you use a tripod and either a shutter delay timer or a remote control. Even then, you'll encounter heat waves or atmospheric shimmer if you're trying to zoom too far away - notice the ski resort pictures I posted on the first page - they're not totally crisp and clear.
