Trash Service Fee Waivers

Looks like a public hearing on the trash fee waivers and new application fee is in the works - Public hearing at 10 AM On Oct 8th at the Board of Supervisors.

Losing the fee waiver was a kick in the face to part timers and weekenders - paying a full toll on services never to be rendered. The Pitchforks and torches were noticed and it looks like the Board is giving the option back - - potentially.

I have no real issue with a Fee to maintain trash capacity - even for homes that generate no mountain trash load. It's just that Burrtec was like a crook that just found an ATM where the pin was 1-2-3-4. It was full fees suddenly for no actual service or need.

What are these fee waivers you speak of. is this Big Bear Disposal or BBCCSD? or are you of the SV Lake crowd?

I believe this is Burrtec - Running springs areas county franchise area 16 and perhaps others.

I live in Arrowbear, are your fees different? We can pay a base fee and drop off trash or pay full and get p/u. The difference isn't much, but at least part timers home owners get some discount. Being full time I went with p/u, but the price savings wouldn't had made it worth it to drop off myself.

My first thought on this when I was a new owner up here was that was a good way to spread the cost of operations up here while giving the ones that would just take their "trash home" another option. Because unfortunately that isn't what always happens, their trash becomes some else's problem, dumped in a dumpster (seen it) or left at another neighbor that has p/u but is not there that weekend. This has happened at a property that I care take for a neighbor that has p/u, I pointed out the price difference being not that much and he figured it was worth the convenience too. At least with the drop off that dumpster drop will/should go there instead... since they already paid for it.

It sucks that some people cause this to be necessary, but some will always try to cheap out on their share of the responsibility or make their trash some else's problem, screwing it up for those of you that would follow the rules; thus the need for charging all something.

I received this from Supervisor Rutherford:

Burrtec and the County have negotiated a revised fee waiver program that, if approved by the Board of Supervisors, will be incorporated into the trash company’s contract so it cannot be arbitrarily cancelled. The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to consider the proposed new fee waiver program during its regular meeting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 8, 2019.

Attached is report generated by the Solid Waste Division explaining how the proposed fee waiver program would work.

Again, thank you for contacting me about this matter. Please feel free to contact me anytime I may be of assistance with any County issues.

Sincerely,

Janice Rutherford

Second District Supervisor

County of San Bernardino
