Water Skiing on Baldwin Lake
Shibbergish, Sun Oct 27 2019, 11:32AM

There was a thread a while ago discussing times past when water skiing was a viable activity on Baldwin Lake. I can't find that thread, so I'm starting a new one to post some pictures I found recently. These were taken in 1993 by an unknown photographer.

I believe it was illegal in 93 to ski on Baldwin. I can say it was dangerous. There were several fence remnants that were under water level and could easily catch a ski or cut up a skier.

I learned to waterski in an irrigation canal, which was also illegal. I didn't get caught. Boots never does anything illegal as she never drives over 55 when she knows the CHP may be watching.

Very cute. Just wait. Your turn is coming. Meanwhile, stop trolling legitimate threads.

Troll? Why, yes I do smell a troll. The question is, which is it, the canal guy or the know-it-all?

Guys - We can appreciate that you don't agree on things, but please take it to private messages. It is not something that needs to be played out in the public forums. Thank you!

And how was your initial post in this thread anything helpful or useful to the subject?

It's actually not, nor was it illegal. If there's enough water you can go paddleboarding and kite surfing, they'll even allow duck hunting in the fall with enough water! Dangerous though? Yes very, as mentioned above the could be fences underwater, so it's ill advised.

At one time there were even plans ro dredge it and make it another recreational lake, but with all the alkaline in it, meh.

Of course that was back when we had real winters!!!

Not sure why you are confused???? The thread is about Baldwin Lake and waterskiing. I responded about that very thread. If you don't agree with it say so. Otherwise I fail to see how your dig here added anything helpful or useful to the subject.

I know my great grandparents and my grandma use to ice skate on Baldwin lake back in the late 20's and 30's.

Not sure because I wasn't around back than. But I have seen pictures of them skating and there were a few others on the lake. I have always been told that "it's only illegal if you get caught". That hasn't always worked in my favor though.

Was it legal to ice skate back then?

What was your reason for pointing out something you think was illegal when it happened more than 26 years ago?

I remember seeing a boatload of fishermen on a small boat trolling, Yes, they were actually trolling with a white flag at the rear of the boat. Should of taken a picture. We were driving by and laughing our asses off.

Some cool images from past history turned into a controversy 40 years later.
I think I will join Jo T.

I love seeing the historical images. Would be a shame to remove them because someone offends you?

Great photos showing water skiing on Baldwin in '93! Thanks! I added here a sequence of Baldwin in the 1930s...When I lived on Baldwin's "shore" (Maltby Avenue in '72-'74) it was, of course dry, dry, dry...we ran dirt bikes all over the lake bed in those days...I'd rather have the water!
