Do you have sourdough starter? I could use a small portion, to start my own. If you can help PM me.

Google "Taste of Home Sourdough starter". Just yeast, flour and warm water.
2 of my baker friends have tried it with excellent results.

Good luck, Cindy

Can't buy yeast, but I have done starter from plain flour. The problem is it takes about 10 feedings to get the GOOD beasties in control. If you are short on flour, you will waste a lot just getting the starter to be viable.

On a further blither. You can buy frozen bread dough, if it is still out there. I got a package of Bridgeford frozen bread long after the flour and yeast disappeared. I snipped a piece off and tried to encourage the yeast to proliferate with some warm water and sugar, but it wouldn't go.

Can someone explain WHY we can't get yeast? did everyone staying at home suddenly have a hankering to be like grandma and make their own bread? Do any of them have any idea how TO make bread? Five years from now will people be throwing away the 30 packs of yeast they still have in their cupboards but never used? :-)

Are all of you on here hand making or machine making bread? I'm a hands on bread maker all the way.

I realize that this is not a pets forum, but Sourdough is my cat's name.
