Speed Test

If I run a speed test for my charter internet speed via my Wi-Fi network, I get speeds well over 100MB. I tried different speed test app to make sure I got an actual results. All were very close.
But when I check my internet speed via the TV (using an Amazon Fire Stick) I can only get speeds in the 20-30MB speed. My Fire stick and Wi-Fi unit are 1’ apart. The distance of my TV and Wi-Fi unit are no father then 3’ part. Does the Fire Stick slow the MB down or does the TV only accept certain MB speed(s)?
Just trying to figure out why the TV buffers so much..
TV is 4 years old, Wi-Fi is less than a year old and my Fire Stick is 4 months old. Cut the cable from Charter TV.

You might consider checking your TV specs. Here are some tips on checking the Fire Stick speed: [Click Here] techjikie.com

That sounds typical. As BillT says to check the specs of your wireless devices. I know my WIFI access points top out at 30mbps.
The sad part is Spectrum only provides us with 10-20mbps upload at best for the outrageous price they charge us.

A router reboot can fix certain Internet connectivity issues, from no Internet connectivity to slow wireless connections, and should be one of your first troubleshooting steps in a home or consumer environment. It’s also a good security practice to reboot the router every once in a while.” I have read that routers can store small spyware bugs in them because they do have some memory. Rebooting or unplugging your router for 30 seconds is said to remove these small spyware bugs that could get onto your computer or network. I found some more info on this website as well about viruses and routers. [Click Here]

If you go to this website: [Click Here] you can then check your wireless speed. Getting around 20 MBPS is just about normal for wireless. I have a very good usb wifi card in a very fast computer. The hi-tech router that we have here is about 25 feet away and I get around 21 MBPS. That is enough to run any video in any resolution. I watch a lot of YouTube in the hi-def settings or 1080P HD settings and the videos run like I am watching TV. Usually anything over 6 - 10 MBPS will be fine for computing. I don't do Internet games so I would not know but I have read that it is around that speed as well. Your bottleneck may be just your USB ports but 20-30 MBPS is a good speed. If you plugged into ethernet then you will get a much faster speed. I think we are at 60 megs or MBPS on our ethernet.

Do you have a dual band wifi router? If so, 5GHz here is at 300+ mbps but 2.4GHz is only 40-60 mbps.

3 year old thread, dang. Oh well.
