Wow you guys never had trash cans and pickup before. That’s amazing! In Big Bear we’ve had it for the 25 years I’ve been here, oh, you have a new 32 gallon automated can provided by CSD. I’m thinking now, think think think. Trash can new, trash cans old, vacation rental trashy people, seems like nothing new. Just more cans.

Interesting, Mammoth Lakes doesn't really have trash service, they have a transfer station everyone must take their trash to. If you want your trash picked up, it's a totally different program that's pretty pricey and they use bear safe, lockable containers. So our program is nothing like theirs, certainly not modeled after them. Their cans are different and they don't have normal weekly service for most of Mammoth, the lockable containers would nice!
bullet BaughHumbug on Tuesday 15 October 2019 - 16:54:18
CoyotePass, if the trash cans you mentioned are at vacation rentals, any and all guests are to take any and all trash with them when they leave (although having the can right there would be very tempting to use). I wouldn't hesitate to contact the rental agency and register a complaint, ask THEM to come pick up their renters' mess. A complaint to County Code Enforcement at 888-399-8591 could also be done; you just need the exact street address(es). As a full-timer, I know where you're coming from on this.
bullet CoyotePass on Tuesday 15 October 2019 - 16:10:48
The burros were out last night in Sugarloaf. They tipped over four of the new cans on my street and trash is all over the street and now the coyotes are circling. Most of the cans belong to weekenders who left them on the street when they left Sunday. It's not the first time and most of us full time people on the street aren't inclined to clean it up again.

, short sighted? I don't think they even opened their eyes. Really makes me wonder if the powers the be actually live up here. This can't be any sane, rational decision made by someone who actually lives up here full time.
bullet MtnBluebird on Tuesday 15 October 2019 - 11:24:52
I hear that those who don't wheel the trash out till the morning in ML can use the type of carts CSD gave us. It is just short-sighted of CSD to think non-locked carts will work for all of the part-timers.
bullet Airport Razz on Tuesday 15 October 2019 - 11:19:17
And might I point out that if this is the way CSD is going to force us to go, again another lie. Side pick machinery will not work with these enclosures. Need a human to open it, wheel the cart out, have it dumped, wheeled back into enclosure. Time and money savings???? Where?????
bullet Airport Razz on Tuesday 15 October 2019 - 11:16:30
Oh my word Blue Bird. I guess the grandkids wont be wanting any christmas presents this year. Again, just lie after lie from CSD. They said the cans would be animal proof. Just looking at them puts that subject to rest. Nothing animal proof and if we all have to invest $1000+ for another enclosure to make them animal proof we are going to have some major problems with CSD. Tell us lies about how it is going to be. Implement the actual program and tell the residents to suck it up and deal with it. That's typical government. I personally am fed up with and don't think I'm going to take this sitting down this time. I'm old and crotchety these days and just don't have the time or patience for their BS.
bullet MtnBluebird on Tuesday 15 October 2019 - 10:37:37
CSD uses Mammoth Lake as a model for our new trashcans. What CSD forgot is that Mammoth Lakes makes home owners buy these expensive trash houses to keep critters out. This could be coming down the line for us as weekenders/visitors keep putting out the trash too early: [Click Here]

Wow, I have come through the snow valley passing lanes at a fairly high rate of speed in my younger days and when had the sports car. You have to be doing something completely moronic and stupid to do what this idiot just pulled off. I do hope that no one died or seriously hurt. CHP, you need to do something about the speed issues continually happening that last couple of years. Could be you coming around that corner next time.

As far as BVES wiring goes, up here in Surgarloaf it looks like something out of the 1800's with wires running every which way, My house is fed from a spice off of wires down the middle of the street. I would much prefer if it all was underground.

Oct 18 : 09:50pm
Naw, it's specific to the threat, could be anywhere from hours to days. In our area it would generally be less than 24 hrs. Up in norcal they had had a multiday event so the outage duration followed.

BootsNBridles
Oct 18 : 08:53pm
This is not just a few hours folks. The new law prescribes very specific actions that a power company must follow once they've shut down. None of those actions can take place in a few hours- more like a few days.

ButlerPeakFire - What took them so long to getting around to figuring out they needed to upgrade their system to be less prone to starting fires during conditions that we've been seeing, well....forever?

ButlerPeakFire
Oct 18 : 08:42pm
BVS follows SCE standards and works with the same contract design firms. Mine being one of them. They are currently starting to upgrade their systems for covered conductor. This should help strengthen their system against outages and phase to phase arcing that can create wildfires.

Oct 18 : 08:24pm
Yeah, it's all more or less the same thing... thankfully, we don't get the real strong Santa ana winds as in the valleys, passes and canyons.

Charles
Oct 18 : 08:23pm
Oh, I forgot about BVES. Thsts the same thing Edison has going. I think its being mandated by the PUC. Two weeks ago Edison had lots of warnings and some turn offs. This week there are warnings but not in this area. Some in San Berdo though.

Benny ⭐
Oct 18 : 08:01pm
We're not SCE, we're Bear Valley Electric Service (Big Bear Valley). This is the new standard to try and prevent the ignition of wildfires during times of high fire danger.

It's a proactive approach to protect life & property. [Click Here]

0n the Edison outage information web page, I dont see any of our nearby areas currently being considered for wind related shutdowns. Am I wrong.

rsbruce
Oct 18 : 07:29pm
I am a bit concerned that people are "normalizing" the behavior of the power company's potential shutdown of our power by comparing that to TRUE preparedness for disasters! This is a power company created crisis, NOT a natural disaster.

Benny ⭐
Oct 18 : 07:21pm
Remember we went through this same fire drill less than a week ago and power wasn't cut, this will be a weaker Santa Ana event, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Always be prepared just in case!
