We have federal representatives.
bullet NShore.Allen on Monday 06 January 2020 - 16:43:59
hooboggled,

The USPS is a an independent agency of the executive branch of the US government. The local government doesn't have much say..
bullet hooboggled on Monday 06 January 2020 - 16:06:39
The mail sitch here is crazy. We pay plenty in taxes. Our town generates tons in tourism and taxes. There is no reason we can’t get mail delivered. We deserve it. I’ve lived in much more rural areas with much worse weather and still had mail delivered. The guy at the post office in Sugarloaf screamed at my wife bc he said we get too much mail! He should be thanking us for insuring he has a job! Should I start a petition to our elected officials?
bullet Socalman on Monday 06 January 2020 - 12:16:59
I hope things have settled down to acceptable crowds now. Even here at my son's home in Lahaina the "crowd" seems to have thinned out since Saturday. Our current plans call for getting back up the mountain on the 13th.
bullet Socalman on Monday 06 January 2020 - 12:13:53
Good morning all!

That was a big 4 prop plane that just left.
bullet Spiceguy on Monday 06 January 2020 - 09:36:48
Airport Razz Thank you for the comment on the gas company. I never lived anywhere that I had to pay over $400.00/month for gas.
Funny thing, we moved up here from the Newport Peninsula to save money. (and for our long time love of BBL) Definitely NOT saving any money.
bullet Spiceguy on Monday 06 January 2020 - 09:32:54
Airport Razz I have a rental agreement. When the 1 year lease expired it went to month-to-month and that's how the owners want to keep it for now.
I am however kinda looking for someplace else where I can have a long term lease. We are not leaving the mountain.
bullet doo·hick·ey on Monday 06 January 2020 - 08:38:52
Good points Razz, 📦 included.
bullet doo·hick·ey on Monday 06 January 2020 - 08:32:57
Dang, sounds like USPS's hands are tied if you cannot produce a 'less than 3rd party' proof of residency. 1st party being the owner and 2nd party, a lease with the owner's name listed on it.. crazy situation.
bullet Airport Razz on Monday 06 January 2020 - 08:29:49
And I might point out that it has been 6 days into the new year before I pulled out the soapbox and it wasn't about traffic . It's going to be a fun year RIGHT???!!!!!!
bullet Airport Razz on Monday 06 January 2020 - 08:28:17
For some reason after years and year the month to month rental lease is designed so that we had horde the PO boxes. Geez. I guess the Gas Company has competition for 'Our Crap Don't Stink' column.
bullet Airport Razz on Monday 06 January 2020 - 08:26:44
One of my full time rentals had similar issue as the lady at the counter has decided that the PO is god and the renter HAD to have a year lease so I made up one for her to hand to PO. Rental company shouldn't have a problem doing that for you to get a PO box that you are entitled to. it will be one of those tiny ones but it is free with lease
bullet Airport Razz on Monday 06 January 2020 - 08:24:32
If you are renting through CB how do you not have a rental agreement?
bullet Spiceguy on Monday 06 January 2020 - 08:13:56
doo·hick·ey Interesting thought but the owners live in Hermosa Beach and I rent through Coldwell Banker whom I might add, also claim my box should be free.
bullet Spiceguy on Monday 06 January 2020 - 08:00:23
doo·hick·ey Thanks but believe me, I have looked into it. It's a revolving door. I have contacted USPS on-line and Pine Knot calls me! All they say is, "it's Big Bear">They also tell me that if I don't have a lease or
or OWN a house I MUST pay for a box. Nevermind that my rent is probably more than most residents' house payments.
bullet doo·hick·ey on Monday 06 January 2020 - 07:57:36
If you are renting, the landlord is probably hogging up the user available slots for their free service.. or don't want you to have access to 'their' box.
bullet Spiceguy on Monday 06 January 2020 - 07:50:40
Airport Razz your experience sounds typical of mail service up here. Glad you got it fixed. USPS is a nightmare here. We need to figure out how to fix it.
bullet doo·hick·ey on Monday 06 January 2020 - 07:46:20
Literally two blocks from the BBC PO, our Mojave property does not get mail. I do know, if they do not offer home delivery, you can apply a FREE yearly PO BOX and have 2-3 names listed on it. Anita Ave & friends on Moonridge Rd also offers that. East BBL may have different polices, but I would look into that Spiceguy.
bullet Airport Razz on Monday 06 January 2020 - 07:32:01
Spiceguy, would be trading one reason to bang head on brick wall for reason to just slam your head in the door switching to BBC PO. I was within 12 hours of being put out of business because of their idiocy last year as an address change request was changed by the PostMaster to Vacant Return to Sender. Didn't get ANY mail for 8 weeks before they corrected the mess.
bullet ButlerPeakFire on Monday 06 January 2020 - 07:18:52
Why doesn't USPS deliver to our physical addresses up here? Seems crazy to me. I have lived in a few much more remote locations and have always had mail service.
bullet Spiceguy on Monday 06 January 2020 - 07:17:12
I'm thinking of moving to BBC, just to keep from going to the Pine Knot PO every day. We've lived up here, in the same house for 4 1/2 years and still have to pay $105./year for a PO Box. If BBL delivered mail like every place else I wouldn't have to have PO box. I've lived in Granite Dells AZ and South Valley area of Albuquerque and had mail delivery. I will say that since the "change of leadership" at Pine Knot took place service has improved some. But waiting in that line for packages ARG... !monkey

I'm in the same boat Razz, technically in BBC but kept a PO box in BBL. Very confusing to amazon.
bullet doo·hick·ey on Sunday 05 January 2020 - 17:47:56
Many many years back, I lived off Anita towards Pioneer. Didn't have a local, luckily there was already a row near NS & I submitted the form, 3-4 months later. Presto. Home delivery. I miss having trash pickup, mail & Nat gas.
bullet Between ⭐️S on Sunday 05 January 2020 - 16:50:42
I was a letter-carrier for 27 years. I'm friendly to all delivery drivers, I know what it's like. Funny thing is, I installed a mailbox in the roll of them at the end of the block. This so I don't have a problem with returned parcels coming viva UPS that get dropped off at the PO. I think this pissed off our letter-carrier (a contract carrier), because he likes to shred our magazines as he delivers them. I know that contract carriers don't get paid like a city carrier, but they still have a responsible to the sanctity of the mail.

Happy Birthday Geezer. Hope to see you at the next SCM fund raiser lunch.
bullet Airport Razz on Sunday 05 January 2020 - 16:01:23
Before we moved the office this last time has awesome UPS driver. Got stuff that was mis-addressed even. Since move haven't seen a driver but found package thrown over fence into middle of the yard. Thankfully it was a drill driver and survived. Don't get me started on addresses as I have BBC physical and BBL mailing. Lucky to get anything these days

Re: Fireworks in BBL:
Pubished 5/29/2020 by San Bernardino County (Covid-19 update):

"With the Fourth of July on the horizon, we want everyone to know that public fireworks displays can still take place. But they can only be viewed from cars and private yards -- we are not yet ready for gatherings in parks and on athletic fields."

If the above will still be in effect on 7/4 is unknown. BB Lake city council meets this Tuesday so there might be more info then as to what the City plans to do.
