McToddy, that's exactly what I did. Probably the same generator delivered from Walmart. Wen 56477i It's a nice size inverter model. It's quiet. and has wheels and a handle built in so moving it around is easy.
I got this cover to protect it when not in use. Fits perfectly.

Good Morning, All.
Yes, I actually get UP at this time.
(Because I have no life.)
I feel sorry for you folks in Big Bear with all these PSPSs. I had a house in Big Bear from 2008 to 2021.
Now I'm in Running Springs.
I can't say that I miss all the tourists in BB.!
Here is RS, we haven't been affected at all by PSPSs in the last couple months, although we certainly had our share of them this past winter!
Have a good day, All!

Hi Baldwin, I used DMB Electric, he's an owner and does a lot of the work him self.
Since you didn't say what type and size of gen you got I can't really comment on this. I have a new 200 amp panel but when the power is off you don't always need full capacity. I also have a home office in a converted RV so I use two smaller units But I preach this to all, get an inverter generator with pure sinewave so the all the electronics survive and get along. Everything has chips and if you send dirty power from a cheap generator to them the will fry everything. Smart TV, refrigerator etc. Trust me on this.

I got my generator a couple of days ago from Amazon. 3 day delivery. Now to find an electrician to hook it into my panel.

... off the power station (I was curious how it would fair if I had to work w/out power)

just passing this along as FYI: a couple of months ago I purchased a generator to supplement the recharging of the battery for a travel trailer when off-grid. I ended up getting a Wen 4800 watt inverter generator. I initially shopped /priced what I wanted back in Feb ($580 at the time). When time came to actually purchase it in May, the tariffs were in effect (now $780-800). The interesting thing is that I could not order it from Home Depot or Lowes because they would not deliver to california. Saw a web ad from Walmart still at $580 and they could deliver to CA!!(Shipped from LV,NV) Anyways, just wanted to let peeps know that sourcing a generator may not be straight forward.

I also got a 1000W power station from DJI back in Dec (on sale for $380). I did a small test to : I found that I could charge the power station from 60% to 95% in about 20m ... not too scientific, but I was curious about charge turnaround. (This was after powering laptops and monitors for about 4h)

Great idea boots, I already have a ton of solar lights outside, should just bring them in.

Hint: buy solar garden lights and solar lanterns. When a psps is expected put them outside to charge. Bring them in and light up your house. Super bright? No but better than a flashlight!

Yes, standalone. I have one but its loud and runs about 2 hours per tank, last outage i had to run the fridge or lose my food after twelve hours. a 2 hour run kept everything cold and the freezer frozen. I want something quieter thatll go for say six hours, then i need to set up a few cords for lighting. The kerosene collection gets new wicking and fresh fuel, and a few more led lights cant hurt...
