I'm with you, Boots. Patience and consideration for others are the keys to a safe and relaxed drive. Not just on our mountain, but everywhere you go. I never would have survived 30 years of commuting if I had been aggressive and constantly aggravated.
Ditto that, CHECK-SIX. I'm happy to let a fast-tracker zoom ahead. That way, if a blind curve in the road has a boulder (or deer or overturned car), THEY can hit it and spare me the trouble.
Unless it's another member of the family following or your wingman, i learned in Vietnam that tailgater at your six oclock wasn't your friend. Pull over let em pass. Enjoy the slot at the rear. Calmer. Stress free.
The thing about driving a two lane mtn road is BE NICE TO YOUR NEIGHBORS. There aren't other choices so move over if you can. Don't judge other people's speed- you don't know their expertise levels nor their reasoning- just do the polite thing and use a turnout. I really think the hotels and rentals should have a half page flyer explaining turnouts- how to spot them and how to use them. I want everyone to be able to drive the speed they are comfortable at - whether that is 30mph or 70mph. Stop pretending you know anything about the other drivers and MOVE OVER. Then everyone can be happy!
JSL I know that Caltrans observes the MLK holiday so my educated guess would be they will not have it closed on Monday, however, I can't give it a 100% without hearing officially from them....
Monday the 19th is a holiday, will Caltrans be taking the day off from working on SR-38? I looked at the caltrans FB page and can't find anything about that. Thanks.
@SBCOUNTYFIRE Yesterday morning, San Bernardino County Fire responded to a structure fire in the 1300 block of Sequoia Drive in the community of Lake Arrowhead. Contractors at the site noticed smoke coming from the upper windows and called 911.
I just dont like being in anybody elses hurry. Best is going down the hill, top passing lane, youll get idiots flying past at 70 or so. 2/3 of the way down theres a turnout big enough for the chp to tuck into til its too late for the speeder to see them, three times ive seen them dispense some much needed carma...
I enjoy using the turnouts. It's nice to take a little break, enjoy the view, maybe have a snack and just decompress. I don't understand those folks who haul up like their butt is on fire and their hair is catching. Seems stressful to me.
TURNOUTS. No matter how frustrated we get and use headlights, horns etc some people will not use turnouts when possible. Could be they dont get it or are just being a jerk. Nothing will ever change this. Suck it up and arrive a few minutes later. Not worth getting into a TC to saving a few moments. Heck,i pull over for even one vehicle. The law is 5 i believe. So everyone stop getting thier panties in an uproar.
