Baldwin67 - the CRV program does NOT include cans, only liquid containers - water fruit juices, wine/beer/whiskey bottles, wine boxes....
Tell me where you paid a CRV deposit on a can of beans.
Any recycling of cans is not related to the CRV program - that is an independent business that the Garstin center apparently operates, selling scrap metal.

Debbiew - I re-ran the Calif Recycle program search for recyclers located in 92314/5 - and the Garstin facility is indeed on the list. Refund rates are the same as the deposit ratees - .05 for small plastic or glass containers, .10 for larger ones, .25 for wine boxes, bladders, etc. I don't understand cricket's comment about Gastin doing "bulk" payments - the CRVV program payments are very specific as to the specifics or each size and composition of each container type in the program. The fastest, most effective way to lodge a complaint against a recycling center or an obligated retailer to initiate a CalRecycle inspection of that entity is by emailing your name, phone number, a brief summary of the issue, and the name and address of the subject of your complaint to: complaints©calrecycle.ca.gov.

Per unit recycling is not practical. Imagine how long it would take to count a trashcan full of cans. They don't work for California and did you really expect California to give you all your money back?

Debbie that redemption facility is unfair! They only let you turn in for by the pound which is a LOT LESS than the deposit you paid. What you get back is a joke compared to the deposits you paid. I tried to do a per unit to get deposit back one time and was denied.

To get a CRV refund in Big Bear Lake, you can go to the Big Bear Disposal, Inc. Buy-Back Center located on Garstin Drive. This center allows you to redeem eligible California Redemption Value (CRV) containers like plastic, aluminum, and glass for cash.

Hey Razz - you forgot that beer (and now wine) bottles are recyclable and go in the blue barrel - unless you can find some place to get a refund of the CRV "deposit" you paid at the grocery store. p.s. - there are no such places in either 92314 or 92315! Many Vons DTH are refund centers - perhaps someone should convince the BBL store to get with the program (or Stater or GO or 7-11, or any of the numerous liquor store in the Valley)???

its not free, it gets added to our yearly property taxes, even if we don't ever go to dump

Your exsisting tax dollars provide property owners in unincorporated areas a free dump card. The problem seems to be your business which involves those who do not live here full time and that is why you are separating trash to conform. Perhaps your renters should be penalized and not every property owner.

@Hank -- Yes, I think they've hired a pack of raccoons to rummage the trash barrels at night!

What are CSD services? We do not pay extra to sort our trash into the proper trash cans. We can drop off trash on the weekends at Clean Mountain sites so long as we already have home pickup (with current trash bill as proof of service) and comply with limitations about what we're bringing and how much of it. (Five 32-gallon bags or cans per weekend day is the limit, plus unlimited green waste and two bulky items, including e-waste. Tree branches can't be longer than 4 feet and can't be tied in bundles more than 2 feet in diameter. No household hazardous waste or construction materials.) Hope this helps you guys as you navigate your situation. I really don't like ours.I liked the old days when we weren't forced into taking trash pickup, because then we could meet our friends on Saturday mornings at the Heaps Peak dump!
