I doubt that Jackie and Shadow would have left the eggs unprotected if they were healthy and viable. I believe that they knew the eggs were unable to develop. It's likely that they intentionally left them so that they can prepare the have another clutch. It's still early in the nesting season.

That is such a bummer Where were the eagles when this happened? Why would they leave the nest unattended for so long???

Hey Ken, yes, correct! It's closed Mon-Thu 7am-5pm, open Friday with flagging, then wide open on weekends.
