@CALFIREBDU: 🚒🌬️ INCREASED STAFFING AHEAD OF HIGH WINDS
@CALFIREBDU is increasing staffing and placing additional personnel and firefighting equipment into service ahead of the High Wind Warning and elevated wildfire danger.
These proactive steps strengthen our readiness to respond as strong winds and dry vegetation create conditions where a single spark can quickly become a fast-moving wildfire.
Our crews are preparing. Are you?
✅ Avoid outdoor activities that could produce sparks, including welding, grinding, and mowing dry vegetation. ✅ Keep your emergency go-bag ready, including medications, important documents, and supplies for pets. ✅ Know at least two evacuation routes and review your household’s evacuation plan. ✅ Sign up for local emergency alerts and follow instructions from public safety officials. ✅ Leave promptly when an evacuation order is issued. If you feel unsafe, leave early. 📲 Stay informed with official emergency information through AwareCA: [Click Here]. 🏡 Get Ready, Set, Go! preparedness resources at [Click Here].
Take a few minutes today to prepare—and share this reminder with someone in your community. #CALFIRE #WildfirePreparedness #ReadySetGo #HighWinds
@SBCOUNTYFIRE At 7:15 this morning, San Bernardino County Fire responded to an unknown fire in the 14100 block of Slover Avenue in the city of Fontana. While enroute, the first engine company noted a well-developed column of black smoke and balanced the response to a commercial fire assignment.
Firefighters arrived at an outdoor recycling facility to find a large heap of scrap metal vigorously burning. The pile measured approximately 200 feet long, 100 feet wide and 20-30 feet high. Developing Santa Ana winds were gusting to 20mph at the scene and pushing the heat and smoke into adjacent commercial properties.
With all employees confirmed out of harm’s way, firefighters instituted a defensive attack on the pile utilizing a combination of hose lines on the ground and elevated master streams from truck companies. As the fire threatened to extend to a trucking yard to the south, additional firefighters were assigned to exposure protection and patrolled the community to the south for any signs of fire extension.
The incident was ultimately balanced to a third alarm response bringing 15 engines, three truck companies, two medic squads, one heavy equipment team, six chief officers and several overhead for a total of 78 personnel. County Fire received assistance from Ontario Fire Department and Rancho Cucamonga Fire District. The fire was declared under control at 12:35 PM and was successfully contained to the original property.
No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters. No evacuations were placed. Slover Avenue was closed between Banana Ave and Almond Ave to support operations. Damage estimates are still being compiled, and the cause remains under investigation through County Fire’s Office of the Fire Marshal.
