Her condition remains critical, and this is still a very serious case. While the eagle remains alert and is eating, it is still too early to predict the outcome.

Wildlife medicine takes time, and some answers simply cannot be rushed. As we learn more about this patient's condition, we will continue to share meaningful updates with you.

Update email received for Ojai Raptor Center: Part 1
We know many of you have been waiting for an update on Bald Eagle patient 26-519, and we're grateful for your patience and support. While we're still waiting on some important test results, we wanted to share what we know so far.

Initial bloodwork indicates that the eagle is experiencing severe anemia and inflammation affecting the kidneys. We are still working to determine the underlying cause, and additional bloodwork and diagnostic test results are pending.

In the meantime, our veterinary team has begun supportive treatment based on the information available, and we are grateful for the collaboration and expert guidance being offered by wildlife professionals from around the world.

The Ojai Raptor Center intended to post Jackie updates as they became available, but they report that Facebook has removed their update posts and restricted their account. It looks like their Instagram account has been blocked also. It seems the recent upsurge in their web traffic has triggered some sort of security measures.

An update from Ojai Raptor Center this morning.
They are still waiting on results for any sign of lead, zinc or rodenticide levels. Jackie is anemic and has inflammation affecting her kidneys. They are unsure of the underlying issue causing these symptoms. The center is working with several specialist veterinarians to determine the best supportive care for the moment.

We loved hearing that Jackie has more energy this morning. She is mad and fighting the staff… That’s our Jackie, a strong and mighty eagle!

She is eating well with assistance and is even picking up food on her own. She is still standing up and perching.

They did do x-rays and there were no fishing hooks, sinkers or other metal objects observed.

We will keep updating you the minute we hear any new information. Thank you for your support, well wishes to Jackie and the entire eagle family.

And please, no one post a reply about how they can't be sure because there was no band on the bird, blah blah blah. Come on! No one's seen Jackie in Big Bear since that day. So why not add 2+2 and say, "Jackie, we wish you a speedy recovery and can't wait for you to return to Big Bear."

This isn't meant to be disrespectful toward anyone, but - well - the whole thing about maintaining secrecy regarding the eagles identity? Maybe I'm the only one here, but... it just struck me as funny! A cartoon caption appeared: "In order to assure privacy, the name of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin." Ahh, I guess it offered a bit of comic relief during these tense global times...

UPDATE: We have been in contact with the rehab facility this morning. Jackie is stable and they are waiting on diagnostic results that can take several days. When we have additional information, we will post it here. Jackie is a strong eagle and we as a community will get through this. Meanwhile, Shadow is an excellent mate and father, he continues to care for Sandy and Luna while protecting the nest and territory.Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes for Jackie.The FOBBV Team

Speaking of eagles, is there any definitive info as to:
1) Whether or not Jackie is the rescued bird;
2) If so, the bird's present condition;
3) If recovery is successful, an estimate of the bird's return to this valley.
